The Nightingale

Kristin Hannah ★★★★★

If I have learned anything in this long life of mine, it is this: in love we find out who we want to be; in war we find out who we are.

Where to begin with this novel?

One of my friends said, after we both read this, "We're going to need a support group." She wasn't wrong. (Thanks L.)

The Nightingale is...

1. Emotional, beautiful, and heart-wrenching. It's everything a historical fiction should be, informative and insightful, and even more. It reminds the reader of the horrors and trauma of WW2 in a startling way. Expect tears and sobs, you can't escape this novel without them.

2. One of the best historical fictions I have read. It gives enough details of the events and historical timeline, however it remains entertaining and features brilliant character developments and character dynamics.

3. Startling, yet inspiring. As I mentioned earlier, this novel raises awareness to the outrage of war in a shocking way. The characters endure immense pain in all forms: physical and mental, and no one is spared. Yet, hope is not lost. Isabel and Vivianne maintain hope within their hearts, even during most gruesome and cruel times. This power-duo contains two new heroes.
